So fun thing I’ve been working on is the theory that all the Straw Hats are actually based on monsters from various types of media. Some are quite obvious, others may be more of a stretch.
Monkey D. Luffy – The Monkey King. The monkey king is the antagonist of the Buddha in Buddhism. This one is obvious.
Zoro – An Asura. Asuras are a clan of power hungry anti gods. This one is also obvious.
Sanji – Judeochristian Satan. With Sanji’s primary battle strength having the name devil is one connection; however, with Sanji being the Prince of Evil, Prince of Darkness, made this much stronger connection.
Usopp – The Deceiver. Similar to the devil but sometimes seen as a different person. The deceiver is a being known as the false god of Judaism. This one is also quite obvious.
