Impacts and Meanings Behind Luffy’s Iconic Finishing Attacks

Advertisements

Hello I want to talk about the impacts and meanings behind all of Luffy’s iconic finishing blows. We all know Oda is a genius and that’s why it’s safe to assume he even thought about the ways Luffy would finish his opponents throughout the series in order to make them incredible and meaningful.

So here is a list of everything I noticed. Some are obvious, others are most likely and there are also ones that are merely speculated.

Gomu Gomu no Pistol on Alvida

Alvida was very proud of her appearance (for some reason) and Luffy punched her right in the face. Also, it ended Alvida’s reign of power over the poor Koby.

Gomu Gomu no Bazooka on Buggy

Buggy likes to act in a flashy way so Luffy beat him in a flashy way too (this is subjective I guess but I think sending him out of town with Gomu Gomu no Bazooka is very flashy). Plus it ended his reign of power over Orange Town.

Gomu Gomu no Kane on Kuro

Kuro is very smart and used his brain to develop a perfect plan to take Kaya’s fortune away from her. So Luffy hit him right in the head.

Gomu Gomu no Hammer on Krieg

Okay here, the only thing I’m sure of is the fact Luffy destroyed Krieg’s armor with his bare hands which was the very pride of Krieg. Then uuuh Luffy kinda twisted him with his legs and slammed him right onto the Baratie’s deck I think? I don’t see any meaning to this one tbh. Well at any rate, the whole point of this fight was that Luffy, a simple man with only 3 crew members, used his mere body to defeat a fearful pirate captain with a a big armor and big different weapons and who has a ton of pirates on his side.

Gomu Gomu no Axe on Arlong

Luffy basically detroys Arlong along with Arlong Park which he was very proud of. More importantly, Luffy destroys Nami’s room which contained elements that she would never want to remember.

Gomu Gomu no Stamp on Mr. 3

Mr. 3 who loved to deceive his opponents and use cowardly methods got defeated by Luffy’s mere instinct.

Gomu Gomu no Bazooka on Wapol

Luffy sends Wapol far away from Drum’s Kingdom and it finally obtains peace. I don’t see any other hidden meaning.

Gomu Gomu no Storm on Crocodile

The name of the attack itself is a pun considering Crocodile is a sand man. More seriously tho, Crocodile had done everything in secret and hidden from the public so Luffy sends him fly in the sky and everyone can finally see his face and everything is revealed.

Gomu Gomu no Golden Rifle on Enel

Luffy defeats Enel while making the golden bell ring which lets Cricket and the monkeys know that the Golden City truly exists. Beautiful ending imo!

Gomu Gomu no Flail on Foxy

Honestly this arc is like a filler so there’s nothing really worthy to mention about this one. Maybe the fact Luffy defeated him using Foxy’s own ability? It was kinda funny.

Gomu Gomu no Jet Bazooka on Blueno

Honestly, this was just Luffy showing that he reached CP9’s level by breaking through Blueno’s strongest Tekkai.
