Jewelry Bonney will join the Revolutionary Army. Even ignoring her taking Kuma’s memories, the build up for it is very heavy if we look at what she’s done and the rest of the Revolutionary Army. Because for the characters’ whose past we do know in the Revolutionary Army right now, they all have something in common.
They’ve all been directly wronged by the Celestial Dragons. Personally. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the more we learn about these characters, the more we find out that this common thread is shared by all of them.
Sabo
Sabo committed the most unthinkable sin. He crossed the path of a Celestial Dragon without permission. And for that, he got shot out of the water and gained his iconic scar.
Ivankov
After all this time, we finally learn that Ivankov was actually a slave too. I don’t know if it was just hidden all this time or maybe his fruit got rid of it, but he probably even has/had the Hoof of the Celestial Dragon to prove it. Who knows what happened to him after he departed, but clearly he was wronged by the Celestials too.
Kuma
As a child slave of the World Nobles, Kuma was endlessly abused and paraded around for his buccaneer strength. It was because of the nobles that Kuma lost both his parents, which filled him with despair. Kuma was considered a problematic, but still valuable slave, which was enough to force him into the Native Hunting Competition held at God Valley.
Koala
Koala, yet another Revolutionary Army member directly victimized by the Celestial Dragons.
I think it is entirely possible that every single one of these main members, including Dragon himself, were personally victimized by the Celestial Dragons in some way. And that puts Bonney directly in line with exactly what the Revolutionary Army wants.
What does Bonney know?
Clearly Saturn was involved in personally making the decision to take Kuma’s humanity away. But now we found out that this isn’t even where their beef started.
Obviously we still have more to learn about what happened to Kuma, and frankly what happened to Bonney. But the thing that Kuma clearly raised his daughter on all this time was being a hero who can save the imprisoned and suffering.
She wants to liberate people too, just like her dad.
Sure the Straw Hats do that from time to time when they visit a country. But this idea of fighting back directly against the Celestial Dragons. Freeing enslaved people? That’s not the Straw Hats, that’s the Revolutionary Army. That’s what they did when they liberated Tequila Wolf during the timeskip with Robin there, and all the other times they’ve surely done it off screen.
Because at the end of the day, all the Revolutionary Army really cares about is taking down the Celestial Dragons. And they took multiple steps towards that at the Reverie.
Tied together directly
Even further suggestions of Bonney joining the Revolutionary Army have happened in this arc, based on a twist of fate.
Oda decided to make it a point to have Sabo and Bonney run into each other at the Reverie, where they did plenty of discussing about the Revolutionary Army.
Bonney has been keeping up with their moves in the news all this time. Oda keeps tying her into the Revolutionary Army, through Kuma and now through Sabo here. They happened to be going in opposite directions before, but if Sabo is looking for Luffy then that’ll lead the Rev right back to Bonney with nowhere to go and even more hatred for the Celestial Dragons.
Might answer one of the biggest Bonney questions
One of the biggest questions still lingering around Bonney after all this time. How did Bonney get away from Akainu?
Akainu suggested that Bonney ran away at some point.
What did she get away from? And how?
Given all of these ties and this seemingly clear tie between the Revolutionary Army and Bonney, could this not just be another instance where they stepped in? I feel like it would make a lot of sense in explaining why the World Government is specifically after her and how she could have managed to slip away again.
Especially after seeing the continuation of this conversation and that they began discussing Kuma even more.
We know that deep down, Dragon has always been watching over Luffy from a distance. Ivankov alluded to it, he always looks out East like he’s thinking of a far off home. What if Bonney is looked at the same way? What if they’ve always had an eye out for Bonney, both for her importance and how much she means to Kuma?
Bonney joining the Revolutionary Army would bring her entire character full circle from her introduction. She was introduced with the fear of Celestial Dragons, saying that of course you would die if you ever crossed them.
But now she’s taking the fight directly to them. All she needs is an outlet to take that out on for good, and not just in a way that will get her killed. That’s where the Revolutionary Army can step in for her and complete her character arc.
