Awakening is the process where your body and mind catch up to your devil fruit, but how is a body and mind going to catch up to a force of nature? It is one thing to catch up to the concept of a gerbil or whale, string or food, but how are you going to attune yourself to such an expansive concept without losing yourself in the process? What qualifies as enough of doing that to awaken a Logia devil fruit?
Of course, they can still grow ever stronger, their minds can be extremely creative and their bodies extremely strong to apply their strengths in the best way with the strongest potency but I’m starting to think that no matter how much one grows, they won’t be able to catch up to the force of nature they embody.
Crocodile will never be as big as a desert or a beach, Akainu will never match the planet’s mantle, Kizaru can’t think and therefore travel at the real speed of light… And that’s not even considering the mind part of the devil fruit, if you catch up to that, wouldn’t you become one with nature or something and dissipate like Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda?
Of course, that’d mean that they can train their ability pretty much forever and get more powerful out of it consistently without even needing to care to train their martial arts or Haki. Which of course kind of fits the generic Logia user’s power level, with an excess of focus on their abilities and too little on combat basics, there is so much to learn and do with these powers, as well as so much space to grow — the output of these powers seems to be able to grow forever — that they don’t really train anything else nearly as much.
That only makes me admire the few too level logia users we have even more. They not only trained enough to be able to do so much with their fruits but also had the humility to train themselves in other ways that don’t simply complement their powers. Enel knew his mantra but he knew it well because of its incredible synergy with his devil fruit. Z from the movie was right on his assessment towards logia users.
