Oda is laying the groundwork for the Final Clash between Kaido and Luffy!

Predictions

With Luffy’s revival and Devil Fruit Awakening being almost certain, I believe Luffy will finally beat Kaido, and will ‘heal’ Kaido along the way. The reason why I think so is because Luffy vs Kaido reminds me of Luffy vs Katakuri.

To think of it, both battles have so much in common :

1) In both battles Luffy was knocked down but came back stronger;

2) Both Katakuri and Kaido is hiding their true selves, Katakuri to protect his famliy, and Kaido to not remind of his lost dreams;

3) And most importantly, both battles were interfered by someone else (Flampe / CP0) and Luffy almost died from it.

In case some of you guys don’t recall, when Katakuri asked for forgiveness, Luffy said

“There is no such thing as fighting dirty in a battle between pirates. It was my fault for not dodging it”

After hearing this, Katakuri ripped off his “Charlotte” printed shirts, and started the final battle with Luffy. I believe this is the part where the fight against ‘Big Mom Pirates Commander Katakuri’ ended, and the fight against ‘pirate Katakuri’ began.

As fight went on, Luffy started to understand the hidden emotions of Katakuri. As Rayleigh mentioned, Luffy’s Observation Haki is “especially attuned to the emotions of living things”. Although this is my personal guess, I believe the words Luffy yelled out of nowhere while fighting Katakuri: “It hurts! The pain! I’m hungry!” is actually what Katakuri was thinking at the moment. The emotions he’d been hiding for years to protect his siblings. And after the fight, Luffy and Katakuri became good friends, who understand each other well.

I believe Luffy will say the exact same thing to Kaido in the following fight. That there is no such thing as ‘fighting dirty’ between pirates, and winner indeed doesn’t need rationalization. Laying down his long-time mental burden thanks to Luffy, Kaido will fight his final battle with his full force and determination. Through the course of battle Luffy will understand the shame and guilt Kaido had to endure, Kaido’s dillema as being an unkillable creature, and in the end Luffy will finally beat Kaido.

At last, Kaido is defeated. But Kaido has finally found out his purpose in life. He was the ultimate arch-enemy that gave birth to the savior of the world, Joy Boy. No Rocks, no Roger, Whitebeard or Oden could pull off this kind of feat. And after all, Luffy does seem like to be a better candidate for Joy Boy than himself.

I believe Kaido, after realizing this, will jump off from Wano just like his first appearance in the manga and face the remaining Government ships. He will destroy the Marines fleet despite having no energy left and will buy enough time for the Straw Hats to run away. By this sacrifice, Kaido lets Luffy fulfill his own dream. To change the world as Joy Boy.

But I believe Kaido will fall to the Marines in the end. Cause of death? Suicide. For no one could kill him untill he decided it to be. A well-deserved, honorable death he’d been hoping for his entire life.
