Nami soon came to respect Luffy’s qualities as a leader, but often gets angry at his irrational thinking and short attention span. In such situations, she sometimes tends to get into violent outbreaks, often ordering him and the other members as well, even though he is the captain.
Through his continued selfless actions prior to her official entry into the crew, Luffy has proven the most responsible for changing her opinion of pirates. When forced to leave the crew, Nami knows that Luffy and the others will come and save her no matter what. Luffy saved Nami and her village from Arlong without caring about her past.
Though Nami often scolds his airheadedness, Luffy never gets angry at her, even when she manipulates him. Luffy also has no problems taking orders from her when it comes to the navigation of the ship. Even though Nami betrayed him when she stole their ship and treasure during the chaos at Baratie, Luffy never changed his opinion of her, insisting that she become the navigator in his crew. Oddly, he seems to place the most trust in her out of all of his crewmates. Even without knowing anything about the horrible past she suffered, seeing her cry was enough for Luffy to place his hat on her head to console her as he went berserk on Arlong and his crew, similarly to how Gol D. Roger acted. Nami is the only person that Luffy places his straw hat on as source of comfort to her.
