Easily the biggest revelation of the chapter, we finally have defining criteria of a “Swordsman” within One Piece. This is a 10+ year argument that has collectively consumed centuries, if not decades worth of people arguing. After punching Zoro, King wonders why people would stick to solely swordsmanship in a fight, and Zoro confirms that he never claimed to be a swordsman. I’ve seen irrational fans try to damage control this, but it’s clear as day Oda has provided the fan base the defining qualities of a swordsman. Meaning, just because someone uses a sword, does not mean that they’re a swordsman.
Holy shit, did we just get a sneak peak of Zoro’s next sword?! Is this the Shodai Kitetsu???? I find it odd they bring up these parallels, and then show us a hidden sword somewhere. Extremely efficient and mind blowing page, also providing some hints at Zoro’s heritage. Very exciting stuff.
Yet another MASSIVE REVELATION. For a while now, theories have been thrown around left and right about Zoro’s eye, and him having sharingan or an eye like Mihawk. I believe we finally have confirmation regarding Zoro’s eye, and how it’s going to just stay closed. Something interesting as well, is that while Ryuma’s zombie had a bandage over his eye, but the live version we saw did not. Meaning Ryuma lost his eye at some point after already being declared the Worlds strongest swordsman.
Monsters, a one shot by Oda about Ryuma, has been confirmed by Oda to be canon within One Piece in SBS Volume 47.
Overall this was an incredibly informative chapter, and upon close examination, one of the most informative chapters we’ve gotten in a while.
