#14-How do Devil Fruits work? Where do they come from? Why do they prevent the user from swimming?
In SBS 48, Oda said “You’ll just have to wait for a certain professor to make his appearance in the story, and explain exactly what the Devil Fruits REALLY are… Eventually.” This was 15 years ago now, and plans may change in that time – still, it’s an Oda promise.
#13-How did Blackbeard acquire multiple devil powers? Why does Marco say his body is different?
Through an unknown method, Blackbeard became the first and so far, only known person to wield the powers of two Devil Fruits at the same time.
According to Marco, Teach has a unique body structure that is different from other humans, which could even explain how he was able to possess two Devil Fruits, when an individual would have normally ended up dying. This is further shown when Buggy stated that Teach did not need to sleep like other people. It is rumored that Teach has never slept once in his whole life, which shows off his tremendous stamina.
#12-Who was the first “Joy Boy”?
Joy Boy was an extremely relevant figure in the Void Century who played an important role in the history of Fish-Man Island and left behind a certain item of unimaginable value on the last island of the Grand Line. He was first mentioned on the Ryugu Poneglyph read by Nico Robin while at the Sea Forest. Based on the historical recordings of this Joy Boy left on the Poneglyphs, it was believed that Joy Boy would return around 800 years after the Void Century. After Monkey D. Luffy awakened his Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and his heartbeat took on the sound of the “Drums of Liberation”, Zunesha stated that Joy Boy had returned.
#11-What’s Shanks’ role in the Final Saga?
Shanks is clearly a character with some hidden motivations, though not necessarily bad. It is evident that he, in fact, knew about the Gomu Gomu no Mi being the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which is why he attacked the ship in the first place. It is also quite likely that he was on the quest to search for Roger’s successor, which could’ve been who he was saving the fruit for. In a twist of fate, Luffy ended up eating the fruit and so Shanks entrusted his hat to him. Now, the two stand on the same level, and Luffy has fulfilled his promise to the red-haired pirate. Yet, instead of meeting Luffy, Shanks has decided to go for the One Piece. This clearly indicates that Shanks’ role in the final arc of One Piece is going to be somewhat in opposition to Luffy. This isn’t all that surprising given the fact that Luffy has also exclaimed to take Shanks down previously.
