Does anyone else think it would be cool if Kanjuro were confirmed dead and the Fude Fude no Mi were to “respawn” in a random fruit at the post-raid party right as Usopp is about to bite into it?
This popped into my head a few days ago and now I really want it to happen. It’s a bit reminiscent of back during Punk Hazard when people theorized that Monet’s fruit would respawn in Nami’s tangerine trees, and it seems every bit as theoretically feasible, except I like the idea of Usopp with this ability more than I ever liked the idea of Nami with logia powers. It’s just such a perfect fit for him.
For one thing, the ability isn’t too OP, so it wouldn’t take away from the charm of Usopp as an underdog who needs to think on his feet for creative solutions to problems. It just better empowers him to manifest his ideas in the moment. In fact, Oda has even demonstrated how Kanjuro’s power can be a compliment to Usopp’s natural talents when the two were combined to take out Sugar in Dressrosa.
I also like the design potential. Kanjuro carries a giant paintbrush, and that concept could easily be adapted to Kabuto, with the slingshot on one end of the staff and a paintbrush on the other. And it has already been established that he’s the best artist on the crew, so the power utilizes his existing skills without needing to shoehorn in a sudden talent for art to make it work.
More than anything, though, it just feels right thematically. Before he was even thought of as the sniper, Usopp was the crew’s liar. Or the storyteller, more generously. And throughout the series, it has become a running theme that Usopp’s lies have a way of tending to come true. I can’t think of a more fitting ability for him than the power to literally bring his imagination to life.
