Big Mom was damaged from this attack to an extent we have never seen, as she said, this is the most pain she’s faced in DECADES, this is someone that is known has having an impenetrable body, not only was she badly hurt, she was FORCED to use a year of her life span to strengthen her because any lower would not suffice, additionally, she finally stopped referring to them as kids and upstarts and for the first time since the introduction of One Piece, she is taking her opponents seriously. This is also without a doubt the STRONGEST iteration of Big Mom we’ve seen, evident through both her size, aura and having Hera, who is an upgrade over Zeus.
This isn’t just a fight to determine a victor and a loser, this is a fight for a title, with the winner being able to claim that they are worthy of having the strength required to defend the position of a Yonko. Similarly to Kaido, we can see Big Mom is now taking Kid and Law seriously by issuing this challenge in her upgraded form.
Even in their awakened state and them having the numbers advantage on Big Mom, they couldn’t overcome the monster that is Big Mom. She left both captains from the Worst Generation rendered unconscious. However, this did not come at no expense, as Big Mom has clearly been exhausted and extensively damaged. Big Mom was pushed to the brink by Kid and Law.
I think it’s a criminal injustice to undervalue what Law and Kid put Big Mom through, for them to even survive long enough to make Big Mom admit that even she is getting tired, while she is constantly huffing and wheezing, it is a testament of their strength and abilities, keep in mind that neither of them are doing this with Conqueror’s Haki or Ryou, neither of the two have ever displayed exemplary proficiency of Haki. Instead, Oda has shown the pinnacle of strenght when one has mastered and honed their Devil Fruit powers, which contradicts Kaido’s statement of “one can’t rule the world with fruit powers alone”.. but that’s a topic for another day 😉
Kid broke Big Mom’s arm with his ‘Punk Corna Dio’ and Law broke her ribs with his ‘Kroom Anesthesia’. These two attacks forced Big Mom to use more life force to heal her broken bones, as seen in the final panel to the left. To force Big Mom to use her life force twice in the same fight is extremely commendable. Furthermore, as seen in the panel below, Law’s final attack was even stronger than his Kroom which broke Big Mom’s ribs, his final attack was enough to blow a ginormous hole in the land of Wano, which means that the damage dealt to Big Mom had to be exponentially more lethal. BUT EVEN THIS didn’t finish off Big Mom, please tell me how many characters can take the amount of damage she did in this fight, CERTAINLY not a Yonko Commander, this wasn’t a fight between beasts, this was a fight between monsters that can contend for the right to rule the seas.
Even while facing Kid’s final attack, Big Mom was able to withstand it and even attempted to extract life force from the pirates in the nearby vicinity. EVEN AFTER ALL OF THIS DAMAGE, the final blow to Big Mom was not Kid and Law’s attacks, but the explosions that were trapped in Law’s ‘Room’ with Big Mom. In order for Law and Kid to defeat Big Mom, not only did they have to use their Awakened powers, but they had to use them to the extent that their lives were on the line and at the end of the battle they had zero stamina left, essentially being rendered immobile for the rest of the war. The damage that they had to withstand was without a doubt the most damage they have ever endured in a fight.
Oda handled the progression in strength of Kid and Law masterfully in my opinion. Prior to Wano, everyone questioned their strength, but with the conclusion of the Wano arc and their feats against Big Mom, who was without a doubt the second largest adversary in the arc, I think it is safe to say that without a doubt, Law and Kid have transcended from being strong and dangerous pirates to being able to compete with a Yonko, although they may not win, it will be a highly difficult fight. I just cannot see Zoro or Sanji being able to compete against the current versions of Law and Kid, and this is no discredit to our favourite crew’s right and left hand men, but Law and Kid were always meant to rival Luffy, not his co-captains. In the end, I’m sure Zoro and Sanji will be strong enough to rival if not defeat Kid and Law, but at the moment, the power dynamic between the Worst Generation’s “Monster Trio” is truly a terrifying one. We have witnessed the birth of 3 Yonko level characters emerge from Wano.
