Why Yamato will not join the Straw Hat Pirates

This is merely what I think the character was made to be as opposed to what many people believe her role will be. People misunderstand the role of Yamato.

I think that far too many people are stuck on the idea of Yamato asking Luffy to join his crew and are obsessed with having Luffy’s crew parallel Roger’s which is why many people have become attached to the idea of an Oden wannabe coming on board the Sunny.

However this is not Yamato’s role in the story. Her asking Luffy was merely a misdirection. She may want to travel to sea eventually but Luffy isn’t her only option, he was merely the best option of escape at the time. Her real goal is to open the borders of Wano.

We also know that this is the goal of Momonosuke and the Red Scabbards, however I’m fairly certain the Scabbards aren’t going to be in that great condition once the battle is over. Thus Yamato’s role in the story is to bond with Momonosuke, and take the place of the Scabbards. To spite her father by fixing the problem he caused.

Now Yamato may eventually set out to sea, probably soon to help Luffy out, yet her immediate future is to stay in Wano and help rebuild and protect Momonosuke after the fate of the Scabbards.

The point of her character isn’t to give us another Oden. Her arc will see her come into her own and accept who she is, the daughter of Kaido. She will still idolise Oden but instead she will learn from his mistakes and won’t just abandon Wano on a whim like he did. She’s currently tasked with protecting Momonosuke. She isn’t actively fighting with the Straw Hats or bonding with Luffy. She had her moments with him but her story puts her on the path of helping the Samurai.
