In the latest “Sono Neta, Neta ni Shite Ii desuka?” TV program on May 5th, Kohei Onishi, current editor in charge of media in Weekly Shonen Jump, has commented on ONE PIECE’s final episode, stating that there should still be 4 to 5 years left for it; around 20 to 30 volumes left.
This statement comes over half a year after Oda’s 4-5 years left comment in Volume 97 SBS, and almost 2 years after the original aim mentioned in 2019.
Question: Odacchi! Is it true that One Piece will end in 5 years? Even if that’s the case, a public statement like that is really vexing for the fans! Many friends of mine who are fans burst into tears with this sudden announcement! I feel like shouting “How could you do this to us!?”, but I don’t want to stress you out. (P.N.: pari_bentham)
Oda: By “ending”, I mean the juiciest part of Luffy’s adventure. Since that’s when the mystery of “what is the One Piece?” is to be revealed.
Right now Wano is heating up, if Luffy is able to leave here in one piece, we’ll get to a development that will engulf the entire world, the likes of which no one has read before – the greatest war in One Piece history.
I said what I said so that the reader’s hearts would be prepared, since it’ll be such a long arc, and one that will really pin things towards the finish line.
Four Emperors Saga is yet to conclude so it’s safe to assume that it is going to be the final saga but there should be at least several arcs to write its finale like, Shanks and his crew, his relationship with Im-sama, how he got his scar, etc. And then there’s Blackbeard who we know would be the final nemesis. A story that revolves around his true lineage, abnormal body, etc.
In between those arcs, there should be at least some revelation on the story of Mihawk, Crocodile’s identity, the origin of Devil Fruits, the collection of stones, information about the Ancient Weapons and the Ancient Kingdom, the fall of the World Government, etc.
