In the final scene of Chapter 1015 Yamato finally confronts her father Kaido. She calls down his name from the roof of Onigashima, to which he responds, “Don’t you mean father, Yamato?”. Yamato then declares her intent to break free from that bond.
We have up to this point, only heard about her relationship with her father from Yamato’s perspective, but have not yet seen the two interact. So this confrontation has the potential to be really interesting and to give us insight into both characters.
I said quite some time ago that a Yamato and Kaido centered flashback seems inevitable and perhaps this clash will be the catalyst. Whether or not this flashback is accompanied by an act break in Wano remains to be seen. I also expect Yamato’s Devil Fruit will at last be revealed when the two begin to fight.
Back in chapter 996 Yamato began what appeared to be a transformation, gaining sharp fangs, before being interrupted.
My idea is that Yamato ate the mythical zoan-type devil fruit Neko Neko no Mi, Model: White Tiger.
In chinese mythology, Dragons have a mortal enemy, the Tiger. Tigers were said to be on equal footing with Dragons, and that they were similar beings in terms of strength and will, but very different when it comes to values.
Kaido represents the Azure Dragon and the new Yang. He represents masculinity, dominance, aggression.
Yamato’s ideology is the opposite from her father, and White Tiger is represented by the new Yin. Furthermore White Tiger is known as the protector diety. As of now Yamato’s primary purpose in the story is to protect the old ways of Wano through Oden’s will, which manifests itself as the direct bodyguard of Momonosuke.
Many people also pointed out that Kanjuro’s drawing of Ryunosuke was a hint at Kaido’s dragon form, but after that, what did he draw?
A tiger, on top of the dragon, as if they were fighting. Yamato has a Tiger Zoan Devil Fruit (maybe even a mythical tiger) and he will be integral to taking down Kaido.
