In Punk Hazard and Dressrosa, his role was to be a dependable crewmate for Luffy. His fights vs Monet and Pica never materialized from a place of personal emotional investment.
For the first time after his training with Mihawk, he’ll be emotionally charged. As a result, I have big expectations for his development as a combatant.
I know Zoro is always serious but I feel like it’s just a different kind of serious in Wano. From the beginning of the arc, he’s been getting emotionally connected to all these citizens like Tonoyasu and Hiyori in a way I never felt him before.
He feels for these people as if he was the one who suffered under Kaido and Orochi. And it’s honestly great. Other than being straight-up badass, his moments also felt emotional in this chapter because of how he got riled up seeing Kiku’s arm. He’s not here to mess around, he wants Kaido taken down for good to free these people.
Zoro saying “I came here to to cut down Kaido” is amazing considering the fact he never showed any interest about taking the main villain before.
